23/05/16 - Psyche Pumps - Broken Hill NSW
One of those stretches of road that seems the same for most of the 300 odd kms.
Are we there yet?
Arrived at the Broken Hill Racecourse about 4pm and we got the last camp spot with power, it was packed.
22/05/16 - Lock 11 and Weir - Mildura
A system of 13 weirs was put in place on the Murray between Yarrawonga in Vic and the Murray mouth in SA to enable a more constant water level and flow for river navigation.
The weir at Mildura is number 11.
Further information on Locks and Weirs on the Murray, and indeed on the Murray in general, can be found here.
Murray River
To enable boats to pass these weirs each weir has a lock which either raises or lowers the boat from one level to the other.
The Murray has regularly flooded, this rock is engraved with flood levels over time. The highest indicator is for the 1870 flood, the second highest if for the 1956 flood.

22/05/16 - Psyche Pumps inspection
We were taken on a guided tour of the boiler and pump houses.
Although the pump house is original the boiler house has been reconstructed as the original was demolished when it was decommissioned.
The old wood fired boiler has also long gone and has been replaced with the boiler from an N class VicRail locomotive. This boiler had never been used.

This pump house and associated boiler house is quite an interesting, and historic place.
Today the same job is done with pumps driven by electric motors.

20/05/16 - Brim - Mildura Vic
After a pleasant couple of days in Brim we moved on.
Stopped at Woomelang, our original planned stop and decided we had made the right decision by stopping at Brim.
A free camp just out of Mildura, Psyche Bend Pumps at Irymple was recommended by a couple of people and that is where we put up camp after a pretty uneventful trip.
We found a nice spot right on a side canal with a little jetty used for kayak/canoe launching.
This site is on the Murray River and the original steam powered pump house was used in the original Chaffey Bros irrigation scheme.

19/05/16 - Brim Vic
Yesterday we discovered that we had left a few items behind, one of which was the charger for my tablet. As these are not readily available it was decided to return home to pick these items up, leaving the 5th wheeler in Brim.
So, a quick 450km later, back in Brim, here are a few more photos of the camp site.

Walking down the main street spotted this old building that used to house Brim Motors.
18/05/16 - Home - Brim Vic
We had only one trip away since coming home last June and that was at Christmas, went to Skipworth in the Vic High Country.
So, after a long time at home we set off this morning on another trip up north, decided to this time go via western Victoria and NSW.
First stop was planned to be at Woomelang but we stopped at Brim first to admire the murals painted on the wheat silos there.
We noticed that there was a camping area in Brim so decided to check it out.
The Brim Lakeside Park is a very nice facility with hot showers and power for just $10 per night. Not that we need the hot showers as we have our own on board, but we decided to stop here rather than push on to Woomelang.
