11/06/16 - Rosewood - Canungra Qld
As the Rosewood Showground closed to camping yesterday we left this morning. Lots of different horse trailers of all sizes turned up this morning so there must have been some horse events on this weekend.
After some "disagreements" with our GPS lady we finally got on the right road to Canungra Showground where we turned up around midday, we were quite surprised to find both the town and the Showground very busy with cars and caravans respectively.
Bit of excitement in the afternoon when the local Fire Brigade turned up with lights flashing and sirens blaring, apparently a 12v battery in one of the caravans was about to explode, it was eventually extracted from the caravan and the firies hosed it down.
Other than that it was a quiet day - Tamborine Markets tomorrow morning.
10/06/16 - Rosewood Qld
Quiet day, recovering from the exertions of yesterday, amazing how much we walked, starting to realise we're not 18 any more!
09/06/16 - Brisbane Caravan Show
On the train to the Brisbane Caravan Show at 7:35am this (quite cool) morning. Rosewood is the end of the line and it was a 15min walk to the station, train ride to Brisbane Central took about an hour, then changed to the loop train to the Brisbane Showground.
Caravan Show was a bit ho-hum, nothing new really, probably won't go to any Caravan Shows for a while.
Day warmed up nicely, got to 28 in the afternoon, bright blue sky.
08/06/16 - Ipswich Qld
Drove in to Ipswich, about 25km from Rosewood to do a bit of grocery shopping, even got an Aldi fix today!
First time we visited Ipswich and from what we saw of it, it looks a bit down in the mouth.
07/06/16 - Texas - Rosewood Qld
Day didn't get off to a good start. Got up this morning and found the left front tyre very soft on the 5th wheeler.
Got it to the local tyre place who took the wheel off and found that was a piece of bone in the tyre, probably from some road kill.
Anyway they fixed that and we went to the local dump point, whilst emptying the black tank someone pointed out that we had a flat tyre!
It wasn't even the one just fixed but the one behind it on the same side. Turned out it had a a quite large screw embedded, too large to fix safely.
Finally got on the road well after 11am, headed towards Rosewood, west of Ipswich, via the Lockyer Valley where they had those enormous floods a few years ago.
Came through this place which reminded us of our daughter Inge.
Finally arrived at Rosewood around 5pm, much later than we usually like to arrive.
06/06/16 - Texas Qld
This is one of those little country towns that has a "soul". You can walk down the main street and people greet you, the locals are friendly and the town is very obviously well cared for.
We are camped at the free camp on the Dumaresq River just out of town, and a great free camp it is with plenty of people camped there.
Wandered around the Texas Cemetery, again beautifully looked after, and found some interesting graves.
This person doesn't even appear to be buried here!
This goes back to 1894.
One of the crops grown around Texas was tobacco and some reminders of that era still exist, a couple of tobacco drying sheds just out of Texas.
05/06/16 - St George - Texas Qld
Left the St George Caravan Park this morning, still cold, still raining. Headed for Texas, a small place in Qld just over the border from NSW.
Driving south from St George we saw more Cubbie Station cotton fields and quite a few large dams. First stop was the Nindigully Pub out in the middle of the bush, quite a few people camped around the pub as well.
Their advertising slogan is "Free beer - yesterday".
The pub is located at the old Nindigully Bridge.
Came across a big mob of cattle around Toobeah, most had enough sense to keep on the side of the road but one group deemed it necessary to block the road, only slowly moving to the side as we slowly advanced (being watched by the drover on his 4 wheel motorbike).
Stopped in Goondiwindi to get some supplies and diesel, still raining, then on to Texas via the Bruxner Hwy.
Crossed the NSW border and the Dumaresq River to the free camp at Texas.
