04/06/16 - St George Qld

St George came as a bit of a surprise, nice looking town with a friendly feel. Main industry around here is, again, cotton with Cubbie Station reaching as far as here with other cotton growers as well.

This mural on the town's Ambulance Station depicts the cotton growing process.

St George is situated on the Balonne River (which I had never heard off I am ashamed to say!).

The weather so far has been cold and very wet, St George had 40 mm of rain overnight and it feels more like winter in Victoria than Qld.

Looked at the Pilots Memorial

One of the pilots remembered here is WO Leonard Victor Waters, the only Aboriginal pilot that served in WWII.
